Inside Out is Pixar’s next film release. Coming out over a year from now, on June 19th 2014, we still don’t know much about the film. We where give an overview of the Plot today and we are excited to learn more . Here is what Pixar released.
“From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.”
At 2013’s Disney D23 convention in Anaheim California, director Pete Docter gave fans a little inside look at the movie. Bryan Bishop, writer for the Verge gave had the following to say about the preview:
“The characters operate from their headquarters inside Riley’s mind (judging by the concept art shown, it lands somewhere between the TARDIS and the bridge of the Enterprise, with a large display screen centered up front). Different areas of the mind are conceived of as discrete worlds with their own visual styles. A land for imagination, a different one for abstract thoughts (with illustrations that call Picasso to mind), and a world for dream production. According to Docter, Riley’s dreams and nightmares are shot there every night, though he said the participants have a fondness for improvisation. The entire world of Riley’s mind is connected by — wait for it — the Train of Thought. “
Since that’s all we know so far about Inside Out, let’s take a closer look at some of the key figures.
Pete Docter the Director. Pete has had an impressive career so far; he directed Up and Monsters, Inc as well as worked on the Story for Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and WALL-E….. so clearly he knows what he is doing. We really loved what Pete was able to do with Up and Inside Out is sure to have some tender moments. Chief Creative Officer of Pixar, John Lasseter had this to say about Pere directing Inside Out:
“Pete has this way of constantly trying to figure out something that we’re all familiar with in some way… he’s constantly looking for these kinds of things. You look at people oftentimes and they do something to make you go “What are they thinking?” or it’s like how a song gets stuck in your head and you just can’t get it out. Little quirky thing alike this that we all do. Certain emotions just seem to take us over, anger or happiness, where you start giggling and laughing and you can’t stop. He thought “I want to take a look at that, explain that.” His idea is that the emotions of this little girl are the characters and it takes place in the head of this little girl, and shows how they control things that go on. It’s very, very clever and it’s truly unlike anything you’ve ever seen, yet it explains things you’ve seen. “
Amy Poehler will play the main emotion, Joy. We’re sure moving an 11 year old girl across country will result in all kinds of emotions, and Joy will have to fight to stay number one (Do you see a Woody and Buzz angle here from Toy Story?). Poehler is one of the biggest names in comedy right now, and her name brings instant respect to a project. This is not her first time in an animated movie either, she has had roles in Shrek the Third, Horton Hears a Who!, Monsters Vs. Aliens and several others. She is the perfect lead to give Pixar another slam dunk.
Phyllis Smith and Mindy Kaling who play Disgust and Sadness seem to work perfectly for these two former Office stars. Both playing minor characters to Michael Scott in the Office, these two actresses are perfect at ensemble comedy. If you where a fan of the Office, you know how perfect this casting is. Phyllis always just seemed sad in a not over the top way an Mindy was disguested by everyone she worked with. We’re thinking the same magic they had on the Office will show up in Inside Out.
