June 27 is the date 90’s kids have been dreaming of for years, but will their dreams turn to nightmares? Girl Meets World, the spinoff of the ABC hit show Boy Meets World is Set to premiere on the Disney Channel June 27. The show focuses on Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley (Rowan Blanchard) as she enters junior high. While Riley is the main star, fan’s of the original series have a lot to look forward to. First, Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage are both returning to the small screen to play Topanga and Cory. Second, we know that other actors will return to their roles to make special appearances throughout the series. According to E! Online, William Daniels better known as Mr. Feeny, Rider Strong A.K.A. Shawn Hunter and Willia Rus and Betsy Randle who play Cory’s Parents will all make appearances during the first (maybe only?) season.
What’s getting the internet really talking though, is the release of the new Girl Meets World Trailer. Check it out Below.
So what did you think of the new trailer? Are you sold yet? Well we are still not sure. After watching the trailer we have some major issues and questions. First off, could they have hired a more cheesy voice over guy? I felt like I was back in the 90’s watching TGIF…..maybe that’s what they where going for? Next, Corey is now a teacher at his daughters school. As much as I love Cory, he’s no Mr. Feeny, and I am fearful that they are going to try to make Cory both the goofy dad and the overly insightful teacher figure. If anyone should play that role, it would be Topanga.
My next big issue is this kid named Farkle (please tell us this is just a nickname). This kid is over the top annoying, and also appears to be in Riley’s inner circle (funny enough, her best friend only gets 7 words in during this new trailer). He clearly is the kid at school who wants to be the center of attention and use the classroom as his platform. Maybe we’ll warm up to him, but right now I’m hoping his family has to move to Alaska mid season and he’ll leave the show.
But there is a lot of good that we see as well. Did your hearts melt when Riley tells her parents that she’s “out of control” and they start laughing (And props to Blanchard for sounding like Cory back in the BMW season 1 days). Also, Riley’s little brother, Auggie had our favorite line from the trailer when he says “you’re breaking him” in to response to Riley telling her dad that she’s growing up.
I guess it’s still too early to tell if we are going to love Girl Meets World, but also we have to remind ourselves that this is a kids show, while it’s sure to have a huge adult following, its not meant to be targeting to us. While I can’t stand this Farkle kid, maybe he’ll be the next Steve Urkel. With that being said, what did you think of the new trailer? Are you going to tune in June 27 to watch the show?
